Land Slides and Debris Flow
Survival Equipment for Land Slides and Debris Flows
Landslides are catastrophic geologic hazards that cause the US up to 2 billion dollars in damages each year. It is estimated that 25 to 50 people die annually from landslide-related incidents, too.
Landslides are masses of soil, debris, or rock that move down a slope. They are triggered by rainfall, storms, fires, volcanic eruptions, rapid snowmelt, or soil erosion. They often strike with little or no warning. Debris flow, a fast-moving type of landslide, also consists of water. It starts small but grows super big as it picks up boulders, trees, and other materials along its path.
