Survival Purpose
The Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-tool is great for EDC needs. The combination of blades and tools fit so many emergency situations. Besides EDC, we consider it ideal for Stage 1 essentials pouches.
The fact the original knife was produced for the Swiss army means it has decades of legacy and successful usage. While it's come a long way since 1891, it's still considered a great option for it's original intent: survival.
This tool can tackle many of the survival priorities. It can help you build shelter, prepare food, administer first aid, prepare fuel for burning, repair other gear, cut cordage, and so much more. It has just the right selection of tools to keep its weight minimized while providing the best functions.
We prefer it over other knock-offs because of the proven durability. We prefer it over other Swiss Army knives because of the selection of tools - you have just the right tools without the bulk of some of the over-the-top versions.
We've researched and tested a number of multi-tools for survival and the Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-tool gets very high praise.

- Blade - The blade holds a great edge.
- Drivers - The drivers work on a number of screw head sizes, plus they're reversible for phillips or straight-edge.
- Personal Functions - It's surprising how often a toothpick and tweezers come in handy.
Tips and Recommendations
- Use as intended - while the multi-tool is sturdy, use the individual tools wisely. The blade work great as blades but not so well as levers.
- EDC - Carry the Swiss Army Fieldmaster daily and keep the Leatherman Wave handy for your go-bag or bug-out-bag.
